Advanced Practice Program

After successfully completing Intensive Mediation Skills Training or an 8-hour Conciliation Training, neutrals are eligible to attend our advanced skills practice program which includes observing at least two mediations or conciliations, and participating in at least four sessions with an experienced co-neutral under the supervision of our Advanced Practice Coordinator. We provide debriefing, mentoring, and coaching sessions for you. Neutrals that successfully complete the Advanced Practice Program may then apply to join our panel of volunteer neutrals.

This program is held on a rolling basis.

How It Works

Orientation. The Program begins by meeting with our Volunteer Development Coordinator for our Program Orientation and Skills Assessment.
Observation. You will have the opportunity to observe at least two real-life mediations or conciliations, each followed by a one-on-one Debrief session with our Volunteer Development Coordinator.
Co-Mediate or Co-Conciliate. After completing the observations, you will then be paired with experienced neutrals and allowed to co-mediate or co-conciliate four or more real-world cases under the supervision of our experienced coordinators.
Completing the Program.  Upon completion, participants will receive a full evaluation of their skills and readiness to mediate or conciliate.

Prerequisites

Completion of at least a 30-hour Basic Mediation Skills Training or an 8-hour Conciliation Training is a prerequisite to participating in the Program. This Program is an important next step for anyone considering being involved in the field of Dispute Resolution.

First Steps

The first step is to meet with our Volunteer Development Coordinator for our Program Orientation and Skills Assessment.

You will then be invited to schedule your first observation, followed by a Debrief session. If you choose not to continue with the Program after your first observation, there is no charge. This Program must be completed within six months of the first scheduled observation

Participants that successfully complete the program will be eligible to apply to Cape Mediation’s Volunteer Panel.
